Houndtool

AI title suggestions

Last updated: October 2026

Houndtool can suggest names for reports and account lists. The feature is off by default. Each user turns it on in Settings, and the setting is stored in that browser only.

How it works

When you click ✨ next to a name field, Houndtool first checks your query with a built-in GAQL checker, which is not AI. If the query isn't valid, nothing is sent. If it is, the Houndtool server builds a small summary of the query and asks Anthropic's Claude Haiku model for a short title. The title fills the field, and you can edit or replace it before saving.

What is sent

  • The resource and field names from your query, e.g. campaign.name
  • Which fields you filter or sort on, and the operator (=, DURING…)
  • The LIMIT number
  • The name of the selected top-level account

For example:

{
  "kind": "report",
  "topLevelAccount": "OMD Kundesenter",
  "query": {
    "resource": "campaign",
    "fields": [
      "campaign.id",
      "campaign.name",
      "metrics.clicks"
    ],
    "filters": [
      "campaign.status =",
      "segments.date DURING"
    ],
    "orderBy": [
      "metrics.clicks DESC"
    ],
    "limit": 50
  }
}

What is never sent

  • Account ids or account lists
  • Filter values, e.g. the text inside '…' in a WHERE clause
  • Report results, CSV files or sheets
  • Your email address or Google login

What comes back

One short title. Houndtool keeps only letters, numbers and simple punctuation, and cuts it to 60 characters. If the AI can't be reached, you get a simple name built from the query instead, and nothing is sent.

Provider

Requests go from the Houndtool server to the Anthropic API. Your browser never talks to Anthropic directly, and the API key stays on the server.
